Behold the handmaid of the lord

     

      I put myself in the place of the angel who bore the news to Mary that she would be the Mother of the Christ. Perhaps he heard the name of the woman, and remembered her from before she was sent to Earth. She was a remarkable spirit, and yet so were many more that came before, some who became murderers or thieves. Life on this planet can change a spirit. She was chosen by Godhowever, she must be a remarkable spirit indeed. It would be with her that the Christ would have his first example of love, patience, and sacrifice. He will need an exceptional example of these things, for his task will be the most important task, for with immense patience he would spend his life filling the world with love. At the end of it all he would need to make the most important sacrifice the children of God will ever know. Will she be willing, this young woman, to take on such a responsibility? I hope so for the sake of God’s great plan. 

     The angel appears to her as she is praying. Her bright face looks up in perfect submission, expressions of wonder and gratitude shining from her with such radiance, all else loses focus in his perspective. This heavenly messenger is humbled to have the privilege to look at her face on this momentous occasion as he tells her of her task, to nurture the Savior of the world. He is filled with joy and peace as she states her reply “Behold the Handmaid of the Lord.”
